Mayor Pairat Suthithamrongsawat, with help from
Pattaya’s finest, supervises his campaign to clean up Pattaya’s beaches.
On September 26, Mayor Pairat Suthithamrongsawat, with officials from many
government sectors, kicked off a major clean-up campaign of Pattaya’s
beaches. The beach cleanup day on September 26 was done to set an example
for the citizens and the mayor hopes that eventually help will come from the
private sectors.
Mayor Pairat said he felt business people and the public in general were
still quite remiss in taking care of the cleanliness of the city, which
should be a joint effort among all of Pattya’s citizens. He said he has
called for help from these groups many times but is disappointed with their
response.
He commented that Jomtien Beach was not a major problem as most of the
hotels and businesses in that area had fully realised the need for
cleanliness as a major part of cleaning up Pattaya’s image.
He warned that he will be much stricter with vendors in the future and will
not respond to accusations of ‘cruelty’, as all must realise that this is
done for the good of all.
Mayor Pairat said that since Pattaya’s beach is one of her major
attractions, full attention should be given to its care and cleanliness. He
continued to say that as Pattaya grows, there is more need to not only take
care of the environment but to make future plans for protective measures.
Part of this plan must include a concerted effort to raise the consciousness
of the citizens of the city. A noble effort we must all take part in.
