About 2,500 Pattaya civil servants and their families were
vaccinated to protect them during the coming flu season.
Permanent Secretary Pakorn Sukhonthachat presided over the Sept. 24
inoculation event at city hall.
Receiving the injections against influenza were city hall workers,
children and high-risk family members, such as the elderly.
Disease prevention and control research shows 700,000-900,000 people
contract the flue each year with 12,575-75,801 suffering other
complications such as pneumonia. Causalities from complications of other
infections have increased by 2.5 percent this year, causing economic
damage of up to 2.4 billion baht.
The city flu shots became available Sept 18 and the program will expand
to all city schools through the end of October.
