Tourist drugged
and robbed
At 10:00 on December 4th Police Lt. Colonel Atthapon
Ngarmnark of the Crime Suppression Division of Pattaya finished investigations
and concluded that Dutch national Helmet Johannes Alai (sic), 48, who had his
video camera, still camera and 1000 baht in cash stolen, was indeed the victim
of a Mickey Finn.
The investigative division of the Pattaya Police ascertained that the
perpetrator was Sanan Krutpayon, 23, a freelance masseur who plied his trade on
Jomtien beach. He was also an agent for Jet-ski operators. Police arrested Sanan
in front of the Jomtien Paradise Beach Hotel after the victim pointed him out to
the police.
Alai told police that Sanan had gone to his room at the Lek Hotel where Sanan
had offered him a glass of beer. After drinking it, Alai lost consciousness for
14 hours. Upon awakening he found that his valuables were gone and his luggage
scattered about the room. Alai filed charges on December 3rd.
Sanan, held for questioning at the Pattaya police station, told officers that he
knew nothing at all about this matter, denied all accusations, and refused to
answer any further questions.
Investigations continue.
